Why Can't I Buy The Beatles' movies on DVD?
The Beatles have been involved in several movie projects:
- A Hard Day's Night - from 1964
- Help! - from 1965
- Magical Mystery Tour - from 1967
- Yellow Submarine - from 1968
- Let It Be - from 1970
A quick check of Amazon.com reveals that A Hard Day's Night is available.
Help! will be made available from October 29th 2007. The DVD will be a 2-disc set. Disc 1 will feature the original film digitally restored with a newly created 5.1 soundtrack, while Disc 2 contains an hour of extra features. There will also be a Deluxe Edition, which will contain a reproduction of Richard Lester's original annotated script, 8 lobby cards and a poster, plus a 60-page book with rarely seen photographs and production notes from the movie.
While the following are only available from as used or import from, what may be, dubious sources:
This has changed somewhat from a couple of years ago, when Yellow Submarine was available. I assume that Apple are slowly going through the titles, remastering them, which would explain why there is limited availability. But it does pay right into the pirate's hands. I only hope the they finish the remastering job soon, and that they do a good job.
